Are There Few That Be Saved?

The disciples asked Jesus that question. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus answered the question this way: "Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are." (Luke 13:24-25). In Matthew He made a similar statement: "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (Matthew 7:13-14).

Why is the strait gate and narrow way difficult to find? Why would some not be able to enter in? Sin and the attractions of the world obscure the way to life. Until we are willing to repent and turn from the world and it's attractions we will never find the strait gate that leads to life. Today we still have the opportunity to seek and find the narrow way that leads to life. We can be one of the few that find it. Jesus said, "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" (Luke 11:9-10).
